My path into marine science started with a Bachelor of Science at Murdoch University in 2016, followed by an Honours degree at UWA in 2017. From there I chased fieldwork wherever it took me: managing a laboratory for the South African Shark Conservancy, testing electrical deterrents on white sharks at remote islands, then developing a shark detection system, Clever Buoy, from early prototypes through to public trials in Newport Beach, California.

I eventually went back to start a PhD in 2022 at CSIRO and the University of Tasmania, using acoustic and satellite telemetry to understand the movement ecology of sharks at Ningaloo Reef. Alongside all the field work and research, I've always kept a camera in the housing with me. Underwater photography is what allows me to document my research experiences out on the ocean, while the photos provide something that a graph never could: it makes people care.
