South Africa

Fresh out of university in 2016 and eager to get field experience, I was offered an opportunity to work in South Africa for 6 months managing a marine conservation/research laboratory. What I discovered was a city with immeasurable beauty and diversity of culture & experiences. I was on the water 3-5 times a week whale watching, surveying and diving with sharks, and deploying research equipment in kelp forests. Every weekend I was hiking, driving through winding coastal roads and over mountain peaks, and exploring new corners of Cape Town’s vibrant and exciting culture. It’s one of the most amazing places on Earth, here are just some of the reasons why:
