A good friend of mine moved to Iceland several years ago to begin a career as a professional photographer. I've been following his adventures closely since and waiting for the day when I could visit, which came at last in June this year! Two weeks of non-stop adventure ensued, with our mental and physical states in overdrive to make the most of the eternal daylight that was available to us.
I'd mentioned that one of my top bucket list items was to dive at the famous Silfra Lagoon, which is known to have the clearest water in the world. And on day 3 we found ourselves working alongside photographers on a project for Inspired by Iceland, the local tourism board! We were treated with amazing visibility freshwater, which is also very cold (2° C!) as it does not see the light of day for years after melting from the glaciers. The meltwater filters through porous volcanic rock over decades to eventually reach the lake and fill the rift between the tectonic plates of Eurasia and America.
